RN Specialization Home Health nursing is a unique area of practice. The nurse/patient/family interactions in the home setting, the range and diversity of nursing skills required, and the autonomy and flexibility of practice necessary in home care, make it a challenging field for the nurse. In addition, the nurse must possess excellent time management, assessment, documentation, teaching, communication, and care management skills in order to effectively serve a caseload of home health patients. Critical thinking is an essential component in the development and implementation of a plan of care. Home care clients are all ages, from infants to elderly. They suffer from a wide variety of diagnoses and each client and family copes differently with their situation. The nurse must possess a broad knowledge of human growth and development principles and be able to utililize this knowledge in very real and practical ways as they work with clients and families. Our nurses at Blue Ridge Home Health must have extensive medical/surgical and/or critical care nursing experience in order to become part of our team. However, they go one step further in their professional development when they join our nursing staff. Our professional nursing staff is committed to advancement and certification in the practice of Rehabilitation Nursing (CRRN). In addition, those RNs who work with our pediatric patient population are also committed to certification in pediatric (CPN) and developmental disabilities nursing (CDDN). Their special expertise encompasses the entire continuum of care for pediatric, adult, and geriatric clients coping with the effects of injury, illness, or disability. Take a look at each of these specialty areas to get an idea of the expertise that our nursing staff possesses.
